Can an AI receptionist handle calls
in multiple languages?

FirstReach answers in more than 25 languages and can switch mid-call between the ten most common, without transferring the caller or asking them to choose from a menu. The ten are English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian and Dutch.

01 On the call

What the caller experiences.

No menu

Nobody is asked to press 2 for another language. The caller speaks and the assistant answers in the language they used.

No transfer

There is no waiting for a colleague who speaks it, and no call back arranged for later.

Mid-call switching

Within the ten languages above, a caller can change language part way through and the assistant follows, including where a family member takes over the phone.

02 Where the limit is

Said plainly, because it matters on a busy line.

  • More than 25 languages are answered.
  • Mid-call switching covers the ten listed above. Outside those ten the assistant answers in the language the call started in.
  • Speech recognition and the voice come from different providers with different language coverage, so the practical list is the narrower of the two.
  • We confirm which languages matter for your callers during the consultation and configure the greeting accordingly.
03 Why it comes up

Where it earns its place.

Areas with mixed first languages

A caller who has to conduct an appointment booking in a second language may simply ring somewhere else instead.

Services booked by a family member

The person ringing is often not the person attending, and the two do not always share a first language.

Out of hours

There is nobody on shift to hand the phone to at 9pm, whichever language the caller uses.
